We don’t have time

I’ve been following the blog postings of a guy called Scott Berkun, a creative thinker and management thinker. Not quite sure what that job title means, but it sounds impressive and he has some very interesting things to say. His latest blog posting is a short but insightful look at what we really mean when we say ‘I don’t have time’.

It’s interesting to see that when I say I don’t have time, I actually mean, I have other competing tasks that are more important. This is the essence of risk based software testing isn’t it? Choosing the areas that are more important and concentrating on those first. Maybe as a tester I need to be more clear about priorities rather than simply saying – I don’t have time for that. Instead I should be saying, I do have time for that, but at the expense of this – it’s then up to the stakeholders to confirm they are happy with this. After all – there simply isn’t time to test everything.
