February 2009 Entries
Another batch of interesting Agile/Scrum Blog posts for you to digest.

- This is a very interesting post by Janusz Gorycki about the inflated value of Unit Tests.

- This post from Jurgen Appelo has some very interesting commentary on the flexibility (and dare I say it - agility) of edicts from other blog posts.  Well worth a read, including the feedback.

- And finally...  This is a really useful Agile Quiz to gauge the Agility of your team

Meeting of the London Scrum User Group (LSUG) - 11th Feb 2009

Well last night I attended my second London Scrum User Group (LSUG).  Once again it was a very interesting meeting with a varied group of Scrum Practitioners.  I certainly gained a great deal from the discussions.  We used the World Cafe format for the meeting.  This enabled us to break up into sub groups to focus on a topics of mutual benefit.  We then summarised the discussion to the wider group.

This month I was involved in a group discussing "How to balance the Strategic Vision with a Team that just wants to deliver, deliver".  This discussion took us to lots of places.  Including managing UI design standards across multi-application developments.  How to engage strategic product management at the appropriate level.  Enterprise Scrum.  We even had a debate around Iteration 0 and Iteration -n!

The summary of our discussion:

- Engage a Strategic Product Owner within a multi-stream development environment to ensure that the strategic vision is adopted.

- Have a Scrum team member who is part of the Strategic Product vision group to design, help and test the vision within the sprints.

- Use visioning sprints to define strategy, UI Approach and Prototypes/Spikes.

Is there a need for a Scrum User Group in the South of the UK?

I have attended the London Scrum User Group, but I was wondering if there is a need for a sister group to meet in the south of the UK?  There is a large area that we could easily cover including:  Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Poole, Winchester, Salisbury and Fareham.

If you are interested or feel there is a need for a group, please get in contact.  We could start the ball rolling....
