Well last night I attended my second London Scrum User Group (LSUG). Once again it was a very interesting meeting with a varied group of Scrum Practitioners. I certainly gained a great deal from the discussions. We used the World Cafe format for the meeting. This enabled us to break up into sub groups to focus on a topics of mutual benefit. We then summarised the discussion to the wider group.
This month I was involved in a group discussing "How to balance the Strategic Vision with a Team that just wants to deliver, deliver". This discussion took us to lots of places. Including managing UI design standards across multi-application developments. How to engage strategic product management at the appropriate level. Enterprise Scrum. We even had a debate around Iteration 0 and Iteration -n!
The summary of our discussion:
- Engage a Strategic Product Owner within a multi-stream development environment to ensure that the strategic vision is adopted.
- Have a Scrum team member who is part of the Strategic Product vision group to design, help and test the vision within the sprints.
- Use visioning sprints to define strategy, UI Approach and Prototypes/Spikes.
